Mara has been leading annual culinary tours to Italy since 2004. With a Master of Italian cooking certificate, a command of the Italian language and many years of developing Slow Food contacts across Italy, Mara provides rare, off-the-beaten-path experiences that focus on iconic Italian ingredients, wine, culture, and personal contacts with food producers. Now, with a focus on the volcanic Sicilian terroir and the biodiversity of this warm Mediterranean island, Mara hosts 10-day tours accommodating her guests in luxury villas in 2 regions of Sicily. With a private driver, you will embark on easy day trips to discover artisanal producers, breath-taking scenery, ancient Greek ruins, and historic towns with lunches in some of Sicily’s finest restaurants, from Michelin, starred to rustic tables. Evenings are spent relaxing back at the villa where Mara will cook creative, light, healthy evening meals. Private, custom tours are also available.

From the Daunia mountains to the Ionian sea discover the special Southern Italian specialties of Puglia, the food basket of Italy. We will spend time with Chef Peppe Zullo, in the hilltop town of Orsara di Puglia. Peppe is a National hero, a chef with a large farm growing everything from his own wine and olive oil to tomatoes, pork, and acres of field crops. He brings valor to the local peasant dishes and invents many of his own using ingredients like borage and wild greens. This tour includes cooking classes and producer visits.
